Description
Teal Montana Sapphire™ is cut from gem rough found in the mountains of western Montana; this gemstone displays an attractive blue-green color and is an ideal addition to custom jewelry designs. Sapphire is the birthstone for September.
Sapphire (like ruby) is a gem variety of corundum classified as a precious stone. Sapphire is hard and durable, and is found in a wide range of colors, making it an extremely versatile stone suitable for any form of jewelry. Sapphires in any color other than blue are referred to as 'fancy' sapphires. Sapphire gets its color from titanium and iron oxides; the depth of color depends on the amount of oxides in the stone. In ancient times, some believed that the sky itself was an enormous sapphire into which the Earth was embedded; sapphires are credited in folklore as being sacred, of conveying wisdom, prophecy and divine favor.
The oval cut is an even, symmetrical shape but elongated. The arrangement of its facets is similar to that of a round brilliant, designed to maximize light and color.
